Epic, downtown wedding inspiration shoot at 800 Congress
Downtown elopements and weddings are huge, which is why we knew one of our styled shoots for the Southern Love Workshop had to take place in downtown Austin! There is just nothing like the artistic contrast between epic city street vibes and the elegant details of a wedding. Our heart behind this Southern Love Workshop wedding inspiration shoot was really about showing off the city, while also getting some epic imagery. The 800 Congress downtown location was a good contrast from the other two shoots that took place in the hill country so it was a good mix for the attendees’ portfolios. Not only did they get an incredible hands-on learning experience, but they also got to leave with some insane photos!
A full-production styled shoot at the Southern Love Workshop
This final wedding inspiration shoot was led by all of the speakers at the workshop. Nikk and Nicole were the main speakers, but Andy and Erika had some great pointers and answered questions from the attendees. This was the first time this type of teaching format was used for the workshop and it worked out really well. The attendees got to observe, engage, and ask questions from each of the speakers involved, which made for such a fun and educational shoot at 800 Congress!
This was a full production shoot – florals, rentals, cake, stationery, linens. Everyone involved pulled out all the stops to make this shoot what it was. It was such a great opportunity for the attendees to be able to witness all that goes into a shoot like this and how to navigate the different elements.
We spent a lot of time with the couple taking photos with the settings we had laid out, and it turned out amazing! We taught the attendees HOW to interact with the couple so that they could get the shots they envisioned. They learned how to direct their movements, placement, facial expressions, and how to engage them in a fun and relaxing way so that they felt comfortable in front of the camera.
Learning about detailed shots and photo composition at 800 Congress
When a photographer attends Southern Love Workshop, they learn a ton of new skills and techniques and we wanted to give the attendees the opportunity to put what we had taught them into practice. They got the chance to really polish what they had learned throughout the workshop and hone their skills.
During this particular wedding inspiration shoot at 800 Congress, we really focused on detail shots and composition. We wanted the attendees to learn how to arrange the different elements in a way that brought together the elegant bohemian style and the downtown industrial setting. It was fun getting to teach them how to really focus on the small details and take photos that really encompassed all the different creative elements.
The most challenging part of this particular wedding inspiration shoot was the fact that there were SO many details that we had a hard time knowing where to start! From the florals to the table settings to the decor, we really had to determine where to focus first and how to capture all of the different aspects creatively.
A beautiful day at 800 Congress in Austin, Texas
Everyone’s favorite part of this day at the 800 Congress wedding inspiration shoot was the el Camino floral arrangement setup by Gypsy Floral. There was truly nothing like it! We were on the rooftop of 800 Congress and the red roses and ranunculus spilling out of the vintage car were just EPIC. It was pure creative-genius and everyone loved it.
No one would ever know by looking at these photos just HOW much went into this final shoot at 800 Congress. Every single vendor put their heart and soul into making this what it was and we will be forever grateful for it because the attendees really got a full scope experience!
